Interest in the use of music in treatment and therapy is increasing worldwide and a wide range of researchers within several disciplines, has completed many studies and research projects in this area.
It is well known that sound and music, historically, has always played a role in the treatment and healing, as well as to human motivation to resist disease. There is evidence that even in very primitive cultures, music has played a central role (i.e. the ‘Medicine Man’ was often also a musician), but also in ancient Greece and medieval times music are inextricably linked to the cure and treatment. In our time, this knowledge is now being 'rediscovered' in earnest, thanks to extensive research within this field.

Thousands of articles describing research with music is now published in recognized professional medical journals and the vast majority of the articles describes the evidence that now exists for music’s positive effect in a wide variety of treatment situations, including in music therapy and the use of "music as medicine 'in hospitals and other healthcare institutions.
The choice of music in specific treatment and therapy situations depends on many different factors, and a number of considerations must be made in relation to the situation and the target group for any given treatment or therapy. The world is full of wonderful music and much of it is highly suitable and very useful in connection with music therapy and treatment with music in general. The specially designed music described and referred to on this website represents an effort where the creation of the music is based on direct patient feedback and research, and is made deliberately for treatment purposes by composer Niels Eje in collaboration with health care professionals and researchers
connected to the original Musica Humana project.
