Music in pain treatment
Specialist nurse Kirsten Lyndgaard and other personnel in the recovery ward at Aarhus University Hospital Tage Hansens Gade has for several years been experimenting with music for recovery and pain patients, and Kirsten Lyndgaard has in collaboration with the sound engineer company ‘Maysound’ developed a 'music bar', which can be placed around a patient's head and pillow during awakening after surgery – it’s the so-called 'Maysound Music Player'.
The ward’s experience shows that the use of painkillers and tranquillizers can be reduced by up to 50 percent if a patient is allowed to wake up after an operation with soft music in the ears. Composer Niels Eje's special composed the music (MusiCure) is normally used during the patients awakening, and this music are also embedded in the Maysound player as ‘default’.

According to the section's own investigation is 98% of patients in the recovery ward satisfied with the soothing tones. 2/3 of patients make use of the hospital’s offer of the specially composed music, while 1/3 like other music of your choice.
